One March, it would not stop snowing at Stratton Mountain

Often March is the best month for a winter ski vacation at Stratton Mt. VT.  Mid-March is the US Open at Stratton with a week of events.  Snow conditions are usually terrific.  You can rent a slopeside ski home or ski condo when others have already put their skiing equipment away.  Mid-week house rentals are great values.  Winter and spring skiing lasts up through mid-April at Stratton Mt.   In 2008, Stratton closed on April 20th with plenty of snow.  It started the 2008 / 2009 season on Thanksgiving with a blast and continued through April.

One year, March 2001, it really never stopped snowing in Southern Vermont.  There were many beautiful sunny days, but then it snowed at night.  It seemed like every day there were a few new inches of snow and sometimes a foot or more of deep powder.  March 2008 was great, typically great, but 2001 in our minds, was the best ever.

Shown below is a picture of the Villager Lift taken from a Stratton ski condo deck early one morning.  A back hoe had to be brought in to dig it out.  If you look closely below the hut, you can see a Stratton lift operator down about 3 feet, helping clear the snow.  Five days later the walkway lighting, shown in the foreground, was buried under a foot of snow.  There was powder skiing every day.  There were over 12 feet of fresh snow within that month.

Some ski condos were burried up to the second floor.  To plan a winter or spring vacation in vermont, please Contact Us or send an email, with the desired dates, number of people, ages, to: strattoncondos@aol.com .  Sometimes ski home rentals are booked up early so plan for your spring vacation now.  Sometimes there are great values mid-week in March or early April.

A Photo of the Villager Lift at 7:30 A.M. one morning in March, after another foot and a half of snow.
Sideview of Condo where snow almost covered the ground floor
By mid-March, the snow almost covered up the ground floor of the condo.  The cars were burried every day in mountains of snow.  There was powder skiing for days.   Stratton Mt. looked like A Basin that winter.
There is a Jeep under there.

By mid-December, 2007 Stratton made a lot of snow. And from then on in 2008, it snowed and snowed.  By the end of February, Stratton had no place to put the snow.

Conditions are excellent for a winter vacation in Vermont.  Maybe it will finish up like a March in previous years where it snowed every day.  The pictures below were all taken this December 2007, January, February and March 2008.

View from the Villager Slope. You can see more snow clouds in the background.
In the late spring, all the March snow melted.
Late in the spring, the waters rushed down the rivers. It was great rafting. This picture was taken around the first week in June just south of the Vermont border.
