SMS - The Stratton Mountain School
We, as members of the Stratton community, are proud of the Stratton Mountain School, its staff and its students. As we watch the students practice, talk to them on lifts, and meet them on and off the slope, it becomes apparent that this is a great bunch of 125 students.
SMS has completed its 36th year at Stratton. In 1972, it first occupied an old ski lodge. Then in 1999, a beautiful campus was developed between the Village and the Snowbowl on 10 mountain acres. In 2005, it was again expanded with an excellent gym, housing for faculty and students. (This is also good news for strattoncondos.com. We have tried, unsucessfully, to find lodging for some faculty during the winter.)
The academic program is excellent, with SMS comparing to many top private schools. Graduates from SMS go on to excellent colleges. Some join ski and sports teams at UVM, Dartmouth, Williams, Colby, Middlebury, Bates, Bowdwin, Boston College, many other great New England schools and Colorado Universities.
At this point over 100 alumni have been named to US national teams, 28 have gone to the Winter Olympics and 2 in Summer Olympics. There have been two gold medal winners, a Silver and a Bronze and a number of top ten placements. This is an amazing record for a small school. They would like the support of all the Stratton residents.
If you want great equipment at the start of the season, you should visit the SMS Thanksgiving sale in the gym. It starts on Friday, and go early for the best pick. We go every year and buy extra clothing for ourselves, our children and now our grandchildren. If you would like to donate to a great school, please go to the SMS - Stratton Mountain School website.
(Please note, strattoncondos.com is a private website, unrelated to the mountain or the school. Some information we have here might be dated or even wrong. However, we try our best, know several excellent SMS students and graduates, and as an outsider, think if you are ever planning on going to a private school, you should look into this excellent facility.)
